Just before E3, the team at The Astronauts released the first trailer for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. We can admit we missed it in all the pre-show drama, but now we’ve taken a few moments to check it out, and you should really do the same.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter puts you in the shoes of Paul Prospero, an occult detective, as he tries to solve the mystery of the missing boy, Ethan Carter. From the outset, this one’s been described as “weird fiction horror” and while it’s been two years since we first heard about the game, it’s great to see that some things haven’t changed. This video, of course, is a real-time PC in-game capture.
When first announcing Ethan Carter, Chmielarz explained:
What we care about the most is that the players feel like they’re really there. Immersion is our number one priority. It’s a game about exploration and discovery. We’re not abandoning the gameplay – on the contrary: we’re trying to strip it down to the bone and make sure it’s always meaningful and truly makes the experience better.
Since the release of the video a week ago, the studio has taken the time to release a post-mortem report, highlighting what worked, what didn’t work, and what remains as “question marks”.
