Crytek is best known for its super-detailed shooters, but the studio’s now working on something very different. Arena of Fate is a brand new IP, promising 5v5 online multiplayer battles starring a few familiar faces.
Characters in Arena of Fate are fresh from the history books – expect Robin Hood, Joan of Arc and Nikola Tesla to duke it out with Baron Münchhausen, Jack the Ripper and Frankenstein’s monster. To make things even more interesting, each character has their own unique traits… Tesla can “leave people in a state of shock”!
Vesselin Handjiev, game director on Arena of Fate is a bit thrilled with the idea:
Imagine Joan of Arc and Robin Hood cooperating to hunt down Little Red Riding Hood—wouldn’t that be terrific?
But besides the game’s iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay.
To explain a little bit of the disconnect between Arena of Fate and earlier Crytek games like Crysis and Ryse, it’s important to note that it’s being developed by a different studio. Crytek acquired Sofia-based Black Sea Studios back in 2008, and it’s those developers that are working on this new one.
Arena of Fate is due to hit Early Access on PC in the next few months – and we have a sneaking suspicion it’ll be on show at E3 in June, too.
