Yes, that’s right “Blockheads”, Minecraft has finally gotten an official release window for PS4 and Vita. The build’n’craft-em-up will be coming to Sony’s awesome handheld and next gen system this August. It’s only a few months away when you think about it really… or at least that’s what I’ll keep telling myself as I count down the days, hours and minutes.
Good news comes for dedicated fans who have already gotten the game on the Playstation 3. You will receive Minecraft completely free for your Playstation Vita for one thing. Not bad, eh? You can also swap saves from the PS3 version to the Vita and vice-versa. There are really too many words starting with V in that sentence. Sadly, the PS4 version does not support cross buy or cross-save due to “technical reasons” apparently.
That being said, if you own the game on PS3 or Vita, it will only set you back a minimal US$4.99 to upgrade to the PS4 version. Mojang are even working with Sony to try and allow those who purchased the game at retail on the PS3 the same discounts as the gamers who bought Minecraft digitally. Seems like they are really going out of their way to ensure that nobody feels too burned at the prospect of upgrading.
How do you feel about the various upgrade options? Are you looking forward to a truly portable Minecraft experience on Vita, instead of the heavily nerfed Pocket Edition on mobile devices? Do you feel Sony and Mojang are doing enough to bring gamers over to the PS4 version of the game?
