Ubisoft has confirmed that Watch_Dogs will run at 900p on PS4, 729p on Xbox One, and 30fps on both consoles. The announcement is in direct response to Sony‘s claims that the game would run in 1080p and 60fps on the PlayStation 4, which it was forced to retract.
…don’t care about framerates? Here, have a new trailer!
Ubisoft Communications manager Gary Steinman has posted a detailed blog explaining “What makes Watch_Dogs a true next-gen game“. Hint: It’s not framerate or resolution, and it’s far more important to the team that they deliver an “amazing next-gen experience” rather than pushing more pixels onto the screen for the sake of it.
He quotes Jonathan Morin, creative director on Watch_Dogs:
Resolution is a number, just like framerate is a number. All those numbers are valid aspects of making games. But you make choices about the experience you want to deliver. In our case, dynamism is everything. Exploration and expression are everything.
Watch_Dogs is set to hit PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on May 27th, with a version coming to Wii U some time later.
