Rockstar Games planning next-gen release by 2015

While it’s not yet discussing actual details, Rockstar Games has hinted at a next-gen release some time before March next year.

The news came during an earnings call for Rockstar‘s parent company, Take-Two Interactive. CEO Strauss Zelnick observed that Grand Theft Auto V contributed significantly to the company’s 2013 successes, shipping more than 33 million units worldwide.

But the best was yet to come, as Zelnick hinted simply:

We’re excited about what [Rockstar] have in store for the new generation of systems this fiscal year.

Unfortunately, that’s all he really said on the topic, so we don’t know quite what the studio does have in store. One thing we do know is that the way Take-Two operates, the fiscal year ends in March 2015, so we’ve got ten months or so to find out.

The most obvious (and relatively uninteresting) interpretation is GTA V for next-gen consoles, but Rockstar could surprise us with something different, even if it’s not Grand Theft Auto VI.

A Red Dead Redemption re-release would be nice (particularly if it also came to PC), and sets things up beautifully for the oft-hinted sequel.

…alternatively, it could always be Agent
