New Kinectless Xbox One coming in June

Xbox One-eighty indeed. Microsoft today announced that they would release a Kinect free version of the Xbox One in all territories where the Xbox One is sold. The announcement came from Phil Spencer who also dropped details about the Kinect free bundle’s price. Without the Kinect, the new Xbox One will retail at a much more appealing and affordable US$399.99 – that is, AU$499 in Australia.

The Kinect peripheral was seen by many as supplementary to the Xbox experience. Microsoft insisted otherwise.

For those who do choose to pick up the Kinect free option, a separate Kinect 2 peripheral will not be available until this fall. When the Xbox One released last November, bundled with the Kinect, it set gamers back a hefty US$499.99. Microsoft eventually dropped this to US$449.99 in the US and UK. This is a good move by Microsoft and shows they are committed to bringing additional gamers to the Xbox One party.

So what do you think? Will this Kinect free option be enough to pull Microsoft up alongside Sony in terms of sales figures? Does it entice you to buy an Xbox One?
