Don’t Starve is about to get a little bit more social, with Klei confirming a new multiplayer expansion is on the way. Named Don’t Starve Together, you’ll be able to team up with with friends (or strangers!) as you attempt to survive.
As we developed Don’t Starve, multiplayer slowly turned into a hot button issue in the community. Ok, let’s face it… it was always a hot button issue. A lot of people have voiced their feelings that multiplayer would be perfect in Don’t Starve. However, at the time we didn’t have the resources to make it happen and we weren’t confident that it would actually work both in concept and implementation.
You’ll be able to play in both public and private games, Klei promises, explaining that the studio is busily balancing out “most if not all” of the features of the standalone game. With multiplayer support for 2-4 players (minimum!), there are even hints that new features may be added as well.
If you’re a purist, none of these changes will impact on the game’s single-player mode, so don’t worry.
All the extra content will be free for gamers who own Don’t Starve – but! If you haven’t alredy picked it up, you’d better hurry – the price for Don’t Starve will go up to US$19.99 at around the same time as the multiplayer content arrives, later this year.
