Minecraft is about to be overhauled on PC, with Update 1.8 set to bring some major changes to the terrain generation system. We’ve been hearing rumours about this for what feels like forever, so it’s nice to see the team at Mojang is getting ready to deliver.
Mojang is introducing 16 sliders to the game, each one controlling a different element of the Minecraft terrain generator (if that’s not enough fine-tuning for you, there’s also a direct input option).
We’ve also supplied a set of seven presets that we think players will find interesting, including a world made of water up to the top of the map, and the return of floating islands.
If that’s still not enough, and you want to start throwing in elements like fortresses, dungeons or a casual lava lake or two, they’re all there at the touch of a button.
Of course, there’s no set date for the 1.8 update for Minecraft, and some would say knowing what we’re missing out on makes the wait even worse… but hey. At least we know cool stuff’s on the horizon, right?
