Take it with as many grains of salt as you can find, but we’re hearing hints that The Last Guardian could see a release date “soon”. That’s not an actual release soon, but an announcement of an announcement is still better than nothing, right?
The news reportedly came from Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Dualshockers). The magazine was still vague about the details, suggesting that if the studio continues to progress as it is, the release date will be announced soon. Apparently, Sony is biding its time, waiting for the best opportunity to re-announce the title (E3?).
Part of that re-announcement is also rumoured to be a platform jump – Scott Rohde from Sony Studios has refused to state which console The Last Guardian will be released on, leading fans to believe it might well be headed to PS4 rather than the original PS3.
Of course, this is a game that’s been in development since 2007, first announced in 2009 for a PS3 exclusive release in 2011. We’ve only heard little bits and pieces since then (last we heard, the developer was “terribly sorry” for the delays), but fans of Team ICO‘s other games, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico remain hopeful.
