Following on from our article yesterday about a “big, Sony reveal”, SOE has revealed their new title. Confirming the rife speculation, the game is H1Z1 – a Zombie themed MMO set in Middle America with a focus on survival and crafting. The president of SOE, John Smedley had this to say, over on Reddit regarding the game:
“It’s a massively multiplayer game in which players fight for survival in a world where death is the only sure thing. The H1Z1 virus devastated mankind and left nothing but death and destruction in its wake and a world nearly empty of human life where the remnants of humanity are in a fight against extinction against those infected with the virus.”
Smedley went on to state that unlike other survival/zombie MMO’s out there, players will be able to use fire to burn stuff in the environment to ashes. Imagine a scenario where you and your mates have built a fortress to fend off the Zombie horde for another night, when all of a sudden some raiders come along and set your beautiful creation alight. Sure, it’s harsh and will probably be frustrating – but it’s another weapon available to the griefers who proliferate these types of games.
Smedley was keen to note that the games servers could potentially hold thousands of players at any given time. The game is being built on the new Forgelight engine and will use a similar template for it’s development roadmap as other Sony Online Entertainment title, Planetside 2. The game will support Player Studio, allowing budding developers the opportunity to make real world cash for selling in game items, designed in programs like 3DS Max and Photoshop.
H1Z1 will be coming to PC and PS4 although no fixed release has been given. Smedley has said “You’ll be playing it soon. Fully playing it”, which gives us the impression, it’s release is just over the horizon.
The developers are active on their Subreddit and are more than willing to answer any queries. They’ve also said they will be doing a livestream of the game next week – so stay tuned here on Player Attack for more developments on Sony’s official Zombie MMO.
