Ubisoft shows off open-world driving in The Crew

When Ubisoft made the unpopular decision to delay Watch_Dogs last year, it also pushed another game back: The Crew, a revolutionary action-driving game set in an open world. Happily, we can now confirm that The Crew will indeed be getting a release this year, hitting both Xbox One and PS4 in the second half of 2014.

This new gameplay trailer shows off four cars, each with its own tuning specs (the final game will feature many more), and each one taking on a different, iconic region of the US. Find your crew and team up for your journey across this huge map.

Inspired by Ubisoft‘s other driving experiences, the team behind The Crew have put together a massive recreation of the United States for you to explore. It’s populated by other real drivers, and packed with exciting challenges to conquer.

Want in? Pre-orders are open right now for gamers in Australia and New Zealand – slap down some cash and you can pick up the ANZ Limited Edition, which nets you a shiny in-game Mini Cooper S 2010 plus early access to a BMW Z4 sDrive35is.

Starting today, you can also get a headstart on the game, by taking on the Golden Plates treasure hunt. Ubisoft has hidden license plates all over the place – in screenshots and trailers for The Crew – so keep your eyes peeled and start making notes. Entering the license plate code into the Golden Plates website will snag you some nifty in-game rewards, goodies and “mystery rewards”.
