Dota 2: The International sells out in less than an hour

Tickets for The International 2014, Valve‘s annual-ish Dota 2 championships, went on sale over the weekend – and they sold out within an hour.

Sold out.

Sold out.

Valve spokesperson Doug Lombardi states simply:

Tickets were gone roughly one hour after they went on sale

The International 2014 will be held in Seattle on July 18-21. Approximately 10,000 tickets were put on sale – including general admission, floor seating and VIP – and these were snapped up in record time. It’s not yet known whether there will be any additional tickets sold in a later batch.

Predictably, tickets are already popping up on eBay, for ridiculously inflated prices. General admission tickets are being sold for more than US$500 – a fair hike from their original US$99 price tag, and even more than the VIP tickets, originally sold for US$499.

The rapid result should be no surprise for eSports fans – last year’s League of Legends Season 3 World Championships sold out the LA Staples Centre in a similarly brief period.
