No game included in Limited Edition Wolfenstein

Bethesda is taking an interesting approach to the release of Wolfenstein: The New Order later this year. The studio’s announced a brand new Limited Edition, which doesn’t actually contain the game itself.

Instead of the traditional “Game plus extra bits”, Bethesda and MachineGames are just throwing together the extra bits and letting you choose your own way of accessing the game.

Wolfenstein: The New Order‘s Panzerhund Edition, named for the game’s terrifying robotic dogs and limited to just 5,000 individually-numbered sets, will set you back US$100 through the Bethesda online store, and contains the following collection of “premium items”.

  • An 8 inch fully articulated hand-painted Panzerhund statue and base
Classified folder containing salvaged secret war documents including maps, case files, letters, blueprints and an x-ray
  • A set of 14 full-color ‘vintage’ postcards from Wolfenstein’s alternate 1960’s, bound in a display book
  • Three embroidered patches
  • Custom replica dog tags
  • An exclusive Steelbook case to house your copy of the game*
    Actual game sold separately.

You’re not starved for choice on just how to pick up the game itself, either: Wolfenstein is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Bethesda has also just revised the game’s release date. The game will now launch simultaneously on all platforms in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand on May 20th.

Remember: If you pre-order your copy, you’ll also snag an invitation to the DOOM beta test, regardless of which platform or where you pick it up.
