Guitar Hero to axe online music library this month

Rock stars, I’m sorry. Activision will stop selling downloadable songs for Band Hero, DJ Hero and the entire Guitar Hero franchise on March 31st – so if you haven’t yet nabbed all the tunes you want, you’d better be quick.

There’s some light remaining in the dark: Guitar Hero servers will remain online, and any songs that you’ve purchased in any game before the cut-off date will still be completely playable.

If there’s still a few gaps in your musical library, act fast: Select songs on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii will be available at a discount for the next two weeks – but once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We knew this day was coming. Peripheral-based music/rhythm games have plummeted in popularity over the past few years, and there’s been no new Guitar Hero release (boxed or DLC) since 2011.

Still, it’s a sad day for music fans – we don’t know the specific time that the servers will be closed, so don’t leave this one too late.
