The Kickstarter project formerly known as Project Eternity has snagged itself a publisher. Today at GDC, it was revealed that Paradox Interactive will be publishing Pillars of Eternity, the new RPG on the way from Obsidian Entertainment.
Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester made the announcement during the company’s GDC presentation in San Francisco, confirming this is a “long term” relationship that’s been in the works for more than two years.
We are looking at this as a along term relationship because we share a lot of vision with the Obsidian guys. As you know, their pedigree is unmatched in this industry.
The deal does not change the way Obsidian is approaching the game – the developer remains complete creative control over Pillars of Eternity. The major change now is that Paradox will take over the marketing and PR side of things, as well as handling the Kickstarter rewards.
Obsidian boss Feargus Urquhart reassures backers (which includes at least 10 Paradox staffers!) that every dollar they’ve contributed has gone directly into the game, and the developer will uphold “every one of its promises” for the title.
