After announcing the game back at PAX Australia last year, Gearbox has kept pretty quiet on the future of Homeworld HD. Now, the studio has revealed a new name for the project, and wants your feedback.
Gearbox‘s Chris Faylor explains:
Previously, we’d been referring to this effort as Homeworld HD but as work progressed it became clear that title didn’t properly communicate the scope of the work. This is more than a simple re-release or up-res — given the input we’ve received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged remastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions.
To keep that authenticity, Gearbox is working closely with the original artists who created the game, to bring it to life in stunning HD. The games will use the original source audio, blended with new content, so it’ll sound stellar as well.
Plus, we’re told that multiplayer for both games is being rolled together into one new mode for Homeworld Remastered, meaning you can interact with other players “like never before”.
This brand new, remastered edition is being polished up and will be released with a super-shiny collector’s edition. Gearbox can’t decide which version to go with: The 6″ metal Mothership replica, or the 12″ resin one. If you have an opinion, head to the Homeworld Remastered website and cast your vote!
Of course, no release date for any of this just yet, but Faylor has promised us new news “soon”, so you can probably start crossing your fingers. For more information, check out our interview with Gearbox vice president Brian Martel, on Player Attack!
