E3 is always a time for big reveals. The leadup to E3, then, is always a time for big leaks and even bigger hoaxes. We’re not sure quite which category this one falls into, but for fans of Dishonored, it could be very good news indeed.
This image has popped up on a number of sites around the place (originating on AllGamesBeta as an uncredited post), potentially letting a stealthy cat out of the bag a little earlier than Bethesda may have wanted.
The design is simple – just a stylised II tacked onto last year’s Dishonored title, plus the symbol of the Regent, developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda. The text reads simply “Witness the full reveal at E3 2014!”, with the hashtag #DarknessOfTyvia.
At this stage, the Twitter hashtag is populated by people discussing the apparent leak, with no new details revealed.
While a Dishonored sequel seems inevitable, this is the first time we’ve seen anything about it (if that is, indeed, what this is).
If it’s a fake, it’s not the first time Bethesda has been stung by internet hoaxes. Late last year, the company was targeted by the TheSurvivor2299.com hoax – a complicated attempt to get gamers’ hopes up, and force the publisher to announce the game early.
We like the logo, but are skeptical: It’s a very clear image, and very well framed. Sneaky off-screen images are typically blurred and awkwardly cropped – it would have been difficult to snap this one without anyone noticing, and Bethesda has eyes everywhere.
Still, we’re crossing our fingers – and waiting to hear back from our inquiries.
