Xbox confirms Twitch streaming coming in March

Whether this was always planned, or a case of “anything you can do, I can do also”, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will soon enable native streaming via Twitch.

The news was originally broken by Twitch CEO Emmett Shear, who jumped the gun a little, hinting that the driving factor behind the addition was one game: Titanfall.

It’s exciting because we’ve never had the ability to broadcast from a console like this with such a deep level of integration. The concept of being able to join a broadcasters’ party is really cool, and it’s another step in the direction of interacting more closely with broadcasters.

Currently, gamers are able to uploade recorded game clips, but come March 11th (the same date as Titanfall drops for Xbox One and PC), you’ll be able to stream to your heart’s content. The company says it will be as simple as saying “Xbox, Broadcast”.

On the flip side – nearly 20% of all Twitch live streams are sent out from PS4 users, so it will be interesting to see how much that head-start benefits Sony, or if Microsoft will come up from behind.
