A whole generation of gamers, myself included, came of age playing the early Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, but very little has been heard of the franchise since 2012’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, leading most people to assume that Activison had finally laid the title to rest. A totally understandable assumption considering the lukewarm reception the last 2 full retail installments in the series, 2009’s Tony Hawk: Ride and 2010’s Tony Hawk: Shred, and their fake skateboard peripheral received.
However, whilst reminiscing about the THPS series on his Demolition Radio show on SiriusXM in the US, Tony let slip that:-
“We’re working on a game, we are working on a game, it’s pretty cool.”
There was no further elaboration on platforms or timescales for the game, or which studio would be picking up the development of the title. The only other tidbit of information to come out of the show was a reference to motion capture suits, which would seem to point to a brand new retail release rather than just more downloadable HD upgrades of previous games in the series.
I have reached out to Activision for a comment on the future of the Tony Hawk series, but have not heard back from them as of yet.
