Disney Infinity to include Star Wars and Marvel

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s Captain Obvious!
I hear you, everyone expected this but finally there’s been a reliable source confirm that Star Wars and the Marvel universes will be appearing in Disney Infinity.

For months, fan speculation has run rampant, as people formed million dollar ideas while playing the ‘If-I-Ran-Disney-Game’ around the water cooler (wait, you don’t play that game?). Now though, it’s actually happening.

According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, “new versions” of Disney Infinity using both the Star Wars and Marvel properties are in development, which we can only assume means more play sets!

It’s not all good news for the folks over at Disney Interactive though, with the Wall Street Journal also citing “people close to the company” as saying Disney is “preparing to lay off several hundred people”.

Sadly, the cuts were all-but expected with Disney not turning a profit from the acquisition of casual developer PlayDom (which they dropped 563 million for back in 2010) and the recent unwilling resignation of Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants.

Although Disney Infinity did very well sales-wise (costing $100 million to develop and already making $396 million in revenue), Disney Interactive is yet to see a profitable full year result yet.

No word on any suspected release dates for the new onslaught of toys yet but as long as Boba Fett in the first batch, I’m sure the force will be strong with this one!
