Deadpool disappears from online retailers

We’re already noticing ways that 2014 is different to the year that came before. One way: Deadpool and other Activision/Marvel games have been removed from Steam and other online retailers.

The official list includes Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men Destiny and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. If you haven’t yet snagged a copy of these games – and you still want to – you should probably high-tail it down to your local gaming retailer to pick up a physical copy. Be warned though: We’re guessing stores won’t be taking new deliveries of these, so what you see may very well be what you get.

Deadpool was released in 2013 to less-than-glowing reviews, but it seems the removal has little to do with that, and more to do with a comic publisher crackdown. Marvel has asked Capcom to remove its comic-related games from sale, as well.

Activision spokesperson One of Swords has reassured fans that this does not herald the end of Marvel video games – the movie tie-in for Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release later this year.

In the meantime, the Merc with a Mouth is still available online in Marvel Heroes, Lego Marvel Super Heroes and – wait for it – LittleBigPlanet.
