Itagaki: Devil's Third is '80 percent complete'

When Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki left Tecmo Koei, we didn’t think it would be five years before we saw anything from the newly independent Valhalla Game Studios. And yet, here we are, half a decade later and very little to actually show for it. 2014 is – apparently – the year it’ll all change.

Former members of Team Ninja have been working on debut title Devil’s Third since forming Valhalla, and it’s fair to say the game has faced a few setbacks. However, Itagaki says the game is now nearly finished.

Next year [2014] will be the year we’ll be releasing the console game, Devil’s Third. At the moment, it is about 80% complete, and we can about see the end of it. However, there’s still a little more polishing that needs to be done. That’s also one of the reasons I’ve decided to work independently.

Following the collapse of THQ, the rights to Devil’s Third are firmly held within Valhalla. South Korean publisher Doobic Game Studios was reportedly attached to the project, but the privately-held company (formerly part of Nexon) has not been visibly active since December 2012.

Itagaki continues:

For you fans out there, I’d like to apologize for making you worry. We’ll be going all out next year, so please look forward to it.

Regardless of who brings the game to market, Devil’s Third is currently planned for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and mobile devices – I might not hold my breath for a release any time soon, though.
