Steam hits new concurrent user record – 7.6m!

Didn’t we just go through this? Steam has hit another peak concurrent user milestone, with more than 7.6 million gamers logged in and playing games at the same time. That’s 600,000 or so more than the previous record, logged over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in November – and more than 1.5 million more than the record before that – 6 million in 2012.

…and while we’re looking at statistics, we note that one of Valve‘s own games takes out the Most Popular Title award, with more than half a million gamers playing Dota 2 at any given moment. There’s also a nice boost in Left 4 Dead 2 gamer numbers, following the publisher giving away copies for free over Christmas.

While we’re not sure how many more freebies are on offer, it’s still worth checking out the Steam Holiday Sales, which is running until January 3rd. There’s impressive daily deals plus ongoing flash sales – a perfect way to start the year.
