Sony to close multiple PS3 game servers in 2014

As 2013 draws to a close, it’s time to look to the future. Today, we’re looking at the handful of games that will lose online support in the coming year. While many will be fully playable in offline/single-player modes, there’s a few online-only titles that will become shiny new coasters by February.

Mark your calendars – March 28, 2014 is the last day for you to enjoy the online multiplayer of the original Resistance trilogy – still fully playable offline:

A little earlier than that, January 28 sees the end of the following PS3 games:

As we told you back in July, two of these games MAG or SOCOM: Confrontation, you’ll need to get onto that one quicksmart.

…and then, after that, May 20th is time for Gran Turismo 5 to go offline only. Hopefully, by then, you’ll have Gran Turismo 6 to keep you busy.

Says Sony:

We would like to thank everyone who has taken part in these PlayStation online communities and hope you enjoyed them.

This is not an unusual thing, Sony regularly prunes its collection of online game servers. It does, however, provide a handy reminder that many modern games do have a limited lifespan, so it might be a good time to go through that pile of unplayed games stacked up by your console.
