DC Entertainment working on interactive comics

…and speaking of comicky things, publisher DC Entertainment has teamed up with digital studio Madefire to produce a series of interactive graphic novels for iOS. We’re promised a more visual version of choose-your-own-adventure books, and it’s all kicking off with a Batman: Arkham Origins spin-off.

While we’re yet to see exactly what these new books are, Madefire CEO Ben Wolstenholme can tell us exactly what they are not:

We have supercomputers in our pockets; we should expect more than just scanned in print.

Of course, Batman‘s not the only project in the works. Tom Taylor’s Injustice: Gods Among Us comic series has been remastered to include sound and motion elements – and this will carry over to the new series launching in January.

Hank Kanalz, senior VP of Vertigo and integrated publishing for DC Entertainment says the apps are designed specifically to make best use of “the interactive elements of the device” – namely, the touch screen, so “you control the pace of how you read it”.

Batman: Arkham Origins – A DC2 Multiverse Graphic Novel will be broken up into eight chapters, which you can buy individually as they are released every two weeks, or pick up the season pass. And don’t think that’s just one story – the way the books are designed means you can access “dozens” of plot scenarios. There are multiple story branches: Some may lead onto Batman’s next mission, carrying the story into next week’s episode, but others may lead to certain death.

Grab the whole series and you’ll get two new skins for Batman: Arkham Origins – Injustice Batman and New 52 Metallic Batman – and this applies if you get the season pass or pick ’em all up one by one.

No specific release date for this one just yet, but it’s looking pretty exciting – we’ll keep you posted on this brand new comic/gaming mashup.
