Details on Thief customisation, companion app

As we predicted, one of the two big trailers that Square Enix showed off at VGX was the upcoming reboot of Thief. We got a new, story-based trailer for the game, plus a bunch of details about the companion app that’ll be released with it.

The app, which will hit North America (at least) on February 25th, will fill you in on all sorts of relevant background information, Thief-related news and even character biographies.

“The full app is connected with the game,” explains producer Stephane Roy:

So when you play, all your personal stats, for example, will be in the app. Also, there is a lot of information in this game and the background story is really important, so we are going to be able to read a lot of newspaper notes and stuff like that. We have also leaderboards that you are going to have on the app, so while you play, we are going to update all of this information.

Roy also elaborated a little on the game’s customisation options, so you can play the game your way. Thief does have its own easy, medium and hard difficulty settings, but you can further tweak these. Want to set it up so that it’s Game Over if you’re detected by a guard? Easily done.

Thief is currently in development at Square Enix, due out in February for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
