Three days ago, we observed that we were shaping up for a major game release “or the unearthing of a great hoax“. Of course, we hoped it would be the former, but over the weekend, it was revealed that TheSurvivor2299 was, indeed, an elaborate joke, and not a glorious viral campaign for Fallout 4.
The person behind the website has taken the unusual step of setting up an Ask Me Anything thread on Reddit, answering the inevitable “Why?” with a simple statement:
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
I wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX/ on 12/11, and bring /r/Fallout community together (for at least 3 weeks) Unfortunately, this plan Failed.
The thread goes on to explain that the prank cost “DCHoaxer” nearly US$1000, that the promised CGI trailer does exist, and that it likely would have gone on for longer, had Bethesda not called it out on Twitter.
