Bungie sets official Destiny release date

Looks like you’ve got plenty of time to get ready to meet your Destiny, as Activision finally reveals the release date for the sci-fi/fantasy shooter. It’s a little further away than we’d expected, but Bungie makes a compelling argument as to why the game won’t be ready until September 2014.

Hitting shelves on the 19th anniversary of the PlayStation launch in the US (and the 15th anniversary of the Dreamcast), Destiny has fans marking calendars for September 9th.

Bungie’s official blog explains:

We promised to redefine what players should expect from a Bungie game. We said we wanted to change the way people play games together. We set our bar high. For us, Destiny represents a once in a lifetime opportunity.

But! You won’t necessarily have to wait all the way until September if you really want to get your hands on Destiny. A public beta is set to kick off a few months earlier (North American summer), for PS3 and PS4, thanks to that limited exclusivity deal.

Microsoft gamers, take note: You’ll get your beta fix on Xbox One and Xbox 360 a little later – and Destiny is launching on all four platforms.
