Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive will hit our shelves in 2014, confirms developer Insomniac Games. As much as we’d like something more specific than that, the neon-drenched shooter is remaining elusive.
This will be the first game from Insomniac to not launch on any PlayStation platform – the studio had a long-running first-party relationship with Sony for years, resulting in exclusive franchises like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. 2013’s Fuse was the first game to break that mould, launching on multiple platforms, and now Sunset Overdrive goes one step further.
We have a partner in Microsoft, that we are happy with for this title. That doesn’t mean we can’t and won’t work with other publishers (see Into the Nexus). We realize not everyone is happy it’s exclusive. We hope the game speaks for itself though and the console becomes a nonissue.
Fans have bombarded the developer with petitions for a PS4 launch, but – so far – Insomniac has held its ground.
