Big Tomb Raider news coming in December

Square Enix has officially responded to questions about that Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider – and it’s nothing negative. If that wasn’t enough, the publisher’s also filing trademarks hinting at a new Lara Croft adventure, with news promised before the end of the year.

The official statement on the Italian leak reads: “It’s so hard to keep a secret these days!”

We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.

A quick check of the calendar suggests the “early December” event is, of course, Spike VGX, set for December 7th and already being hyped as a hotbed for announcements and reveals.

But then! The question now is not necessarily whether Crystal Dynamics will use that space to announce a polished-up, new-generation version of this year’s Tomb Raider. The theory now stands that the Definitive Edition may be a distraction from the real news.

Square Enix has recently filed a trademark – in both the U.S. and Europe – for a product named Tomb Raider: Reflections. Could this be the next-generation sequel we were promised earlier this year?

Spike VGX (formerly the Video Game Awards) will be held Saturday, December 7th at 6pm ET / 3pm PT (what’s that in my timezone?) – Player Attack will be watching.
