Just a week away from the convention, and BlizzCon finally has a closing act. Blizzard fans in Anaheim will be treated to a punk rock show as Blink-182 take the stage on Saturday night. Like all good gamers, the band is taking a break from a sell-out tour to spend a night in Azeroth.
Blink-182 has sold more than 35 million albums in its 20+ year history, survived an “indefinite hiatus” that lasted nearly five years, and have been labelled one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. And now, the trio is bringing their frenetic pop-punk energy to BlizzCon, to wrap up two days of celebrating all things Blizzard.
Tom DeLonge, Blink-182 guitarist and vocalist, explains:
Nothing beats touring and playing in front of a live crowd. Our roots are in Southern California, so playing at BlizzCon will be like having a show in our own backyard—only with a couple thousand more orcs and elves in loincloths and bikini armor.
The BlizzCon Closing Ceremony has played host to a number of major musical acts over the years, from Video Games Live to Offspring, Foo Fighters, Tenacious D and even Ozzy Osbourne. Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime is looking forward to rockin’ out.
After two days of hard work watching games and playing games and talking about games, we can’t think of a better way to kick back and relax than to have your face melted by Blink-182. We’re thrilled to have such an awesome band helping us bring BlizzCon to an epic conclusion.
BlizzCon 2013 will hit the Anaheim Convention Centre November 8 and 9. It has sold out of real-world tickets months in advance, but if you want to join in the celebrations of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, you can do it from the comfort of your own home with a BlizzCon Virtual Ticket. Yes, the Blink-182 show is included.
