Grand Theft Auto IV was remarkably popular, we all know that. But – in thoroughly unsurprising news – Grand Theft Auto V is even moreso. Take-Two announced today that when it comes to copies shipped to retailers, GTAV has already moved more than GTA4 did in its entire lifetime. Time taken to reach this milestone: Six weeks.
Specifically: GTAV has sold nearly 29 million units to stores (not individual people), a number that boosts the Take-Two Non-GAAP net revenue up to US$1.27 billion for the quarter ending September 30, 2013. In comparison, the quarter ending September 30, 2012 saw revenues of just US$288 million.
…and it’s not just GTA, of course: Borderlands 2 has shipped more than 7.5 million copies to retail, meaning it’s “well on its way” to becoming the best-selling title in the Take-Two stables (if you ignore anything with the Rockstar stamp, of course).
With all this in mind, Take-Two has adjusted its expectations for the fiscal year, now predicting between US$2.2 and US$2.3 billion in revenue.
