Over the weekend, 2K Games announced that the second batch of new content is due to hit BioShock Infinite on November 12th. Burial at Sea – Episode 1 is headed to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and promises to take gamers right back to Rapture.
But! You’re not headed to the decrepit, falling-down city under the sea that you remember from the original BioShock. Things haven’t gone that far yet. Instead, you’re invited to Rapture as it was meant to be – “a shining jewel at the bottom of the ocean”.
Booker and Elizabeth face a film noir-style story, a pristine Rapture, and it’s up to you to explore it – possibly even encountering an old friend or two from the earlier games.
Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games explains:
This is a love letter to the fans, but it’s also the beginning of a story that will give gamers a new perspective on the BioShock universe. With Burial at Sea, we built a Rapture not from BioShock and BioShock Infinite scraps and pieces, but with environments almost entirely crafted from scratch.
This Rapture has been built almost entirely from the ground up in the BioShock Infinite game engine, bringing the historical setting beautifully into the present day. Combat has been rebalanced and reworked, there’s more emphasis on stealth now. The best parts of BioShock blend with the best parts of BioShock Infinite – meaning you’ll get a new weapon alongisde an old favourite from the original game, and the weapon wheel to choose between them.
So. If you want this, mark the calendars for November 12th. BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1 will be available from November 12th either as a separate purchase or as part of the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.
