The exodus has started. With Microsoft shutting down Games for Windows Live over the next year, games are beginning to sever ties to the service. Today, we see both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City depart, following in the footsteps of BioShock 2.
Good news: If you’ve purchased either game on Steam already, you don’t have to do anything! Download the latest patch (which should happen automagically), and you’re good to go.
If you’ve picked up the games through other means – brick & mortar stores, bought a key online etc – enter your CD Key directly into Steam.
Erik Miller warns:
Unfortunately, you will not be able to continue playing from your current save. You will need to start a new game.
Going forward you do not have to worry about where you stored that disc. If you switch computers or go to a friend’s house you simply need to download Steam, log into your account, then go to the library and select to install your game.
The instructions to enter your CD Key are super-simple:
- Click ADD A GAME….
- Select Activate a Product on Steam..
- Click Next.
- Click I Agree.
- Enter your CD Key and select next once the game finishes downloading you will be able to play the game.
It’s as simple as that! Watch out over the next few months, these three titles are just the tip of the Games For Windows Live departures.
