The team behind Tiny Tower has taken the format to a galaxy far, far away, pairing up with Disney Interactive to create Star Wars: Tiny Death Star. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect: You join Emperor Palpatine and a slightly-dim Darth Vader to build your very own Tiny Death Star one level at a time.
If you’ll pardon the pun, it’s a virtual clone of Tiny Tower, plonked in a different setting and given a LucasArts-themed coat of paint. And that is in no way a bad thing. Each Galactic bitizen has its own skill set and tiny desires, and looks like a character plucked straight from Star Wars. There are miniature Storm Troopers, all sorts of Empire-themed helmets and clothing, and they’re no longer restricted to humans. Ewoks, Toydarians, and other galaxy-dwellers are more than happy to move into your residential levels.
It’s adorably detailed, right down to the 8-bit chiptune interpretations of classic Star Wars melodies, and each of the in-game levels are perfectly designed. Gameplay is simple (and ridiculously addictive), and it’s had the sort of loving polish we’ve come to expect from Nimblebit and Disney.
But… there’s a catch. Tiny Death Star is only available right now in selected territories for iOS and Android. If you’re in Australia, you’re in luck. If you’re in the United States, you’ll have to wait a while.
…trust me: It’s worth it.
