And from one superhero outing to another: Big news today for Warner Bros and DC Entertainment, as we learn Batman: Arkham Origins is also headed to iOS and Android. The mobile version is a new, free-to-play brawler that ties into the console release – and it’s in development at Injustice and Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm.
The game builds on the success of Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, as NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon explains:
We created an integrated gaming ecosystem between the Batman: Arkham Origins mobile and console games, which delivers rewards and unlocks that provide greater experiences for players. The mobile game goes hand-in-hand with what is offered on the other platforms.
We’re looking at a new mobile offering that puts you in the Batsuit. Take on “a number” of DC’s most deadly assassins (we don’t yet know just who), as you progress through the most dangerous spots in Gotham City.
The character is your own – unlock unique Batsuits and upgrade your abilities as you earn in-game currency and rewards.
…and the best part? This free mobile release will help unlock additional, exclusive content for the console versions of Batman: Arkham Origins, out later this month for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
