Historically speaking, the odds are against the Need for Speed movie. Film adaptations of video games are almost never any good – but could this one be an exception? Starring Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, this first trailer suggests that we could be in for a pretty enjoyable, very fast, ride.
The official description:
Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
Alongside Aaron Paul, we have Dominic Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Imogen Poots and – of course – Michael Keaton as the bad guy. In the director’s chair, we have Scott Waugh, best known for last year’s Act of Valor.
The film – drawing heavily from the “car culture” films of the 70s – is Paul’s first starring role after Breaking Bad. From the looks of this, the videogame tie-in is a smart move for the actor. Could Need for Speed be the (nitro) boost he needs to prove his leading man potential?
Need for Speed – filmed largely in Macon, Georgia – hits cinemas in the US on March 14, 2014. Worldwide dates are still incoming.
