Thirty years ago, Hulk Hogan and Mr T defeated Rowdy Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in the main event of the first ever Wrestlemania. Since then it’s been the World Cup Grand Final of Professional Wrestling. This year 2K Games is determined to remind us of that. The new “30 Years of Wrestlemania” mode has been announced for WWE2K14, promising that: “players can now relive their favorite nostalgic and recent WrestleMania moments – from an incredible roster to authentic presentation and match play – in a unique and engaging way.”
2K, who recently acquired the WWE licence after THQ went away and added it to their roster of yearly sports releases, are promising 45 matches, including several will be wrestling hallmarks. Five distinct periods of WWE history have been recreated, down to the filters used on the screens.
Looks like yesterday’s tease had some merit – featured bouts include:
- Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 3
- WWE 2K14 cover Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson vs. “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan in an “Icon vs. Icon” match at WrestleMania 18
- …and the much-anticipated WrestleMania 28 main event featuring The Rock vs. John Cena
The entire roster for WWE2K14 and the 30 Years of Wrestlemania already includes Macho Man Randy Savage, Biker Undertaker and The Ultimate Warrior. The remaining lineup will be revealed this Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 12:30pm PDT (What’s that in my timezone?), by WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler and WWE Superstar Damien Sandow on 2K’s Twitch stream.
