Disney Infinity has playable Mickey + Toy Story

With Disney Infinity just over a week away, the developers are still making major announcements about what you’ll find in the Toybox. At this year’s D23 Expo in California, Disney Interactive revealed a new PlaySet and a whole new wave of playable characters… including one or two we’ve been wanting since the game’s announcement.

Disney Infinity's Holiday Character Lineup

Disney Infinity’s Holiday Character Lineup

First off, a PlaySet that puts an unusual twist onto a beloved franchise. We’d all been hoping for Buzz Lightyear to make an appearance, but we didn’t expect it would be on his home turf. The Toy Story in Space PlaySet features Buzz and Jessie (with Woody sold separately), and takes you on an all-new space adventure as you relocate the Pizza Planet Aliens to a new world.

While story mode is pretty great, the exciting stuff is unlocked in the Toy Box – new hoverpacks, goo blasters, jetpacks, laser blasters, new mounts and plenty more. And it’s all blended seamlessly with other Disney/Pixar characters and objects.

…and speaking of, the Toy Box is getting its own new characters, who aren’t attached to any single PlaySet. Each of these new characters has its own Adventure – a short game unique to that character. Play through each Adventure by yourself, or with your friends.

The lineup is impeccable:

  • Just in time for Halloween: Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • The first Disney Princess to be introduced into the Disney Infinity line-up: Rapunzel, from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Tangled
  • Video game characters from a movie within a video game: Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-It Ralph
  • The first Disney Channel characters to be showcased in the Toy Box: Phineas and Agent P from the Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb
  • Keeping it cool: Anna and Elsa from the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen
  • Leader of the pack: Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey

Disney Infinity is due out from August 18th (August 20th in Australia), hitting Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Wii U – and will be accessible through tablets, smartphones, 3DS and PC. The Starter Pack will be available from Day One, including the game, reader, Mr Incredible, Sulley and Captain Jack Sparrow (and their matching PlaySets). PlaySets for Cars and The Lone Ranger will also be available, but if you want additional figurines and Power Discs, you might be left waiting a while: These new D23 reveals won’t be out until October.
