World of Warcraft gets six-part animated series

Blizzard has just launched a six-part animated series telling the story of the last pandaren emperor. The Burdens of Shaohao Prelude: The Vision is told by Lorewalker Cho and illustrated by Laurel Austin, and ties into events shown in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.

Ten thousand years ago in the ancient empire of Pandaria, Emperor Shaohao asked the Great Waterspeaker to peer into his future. What did the rippling waters foretell? Journey into Pandaria’s history in “The Burdens of Shaohao Prelude: The Vision.”

While this is exciting enough as it is, it’s worth pointing out that Blizzard has made this move before. Another series of short animations released a while ago introduced Deathwing’s son and gave some backstory to the game’s legendary quest chain. The timing of this previous release? Near the end of Cataclysm, the previous World of Warcraft expansion. Could this mean Mists of Pandaria is drawing to a close too? Is another World of Warcraft expansion on the horizon?
