Blizzard is working on a new game, codenamed Titan. This new game is an all-new franchise, and it will be a subscription-based MMO. Except it’s not, with the company announcing a major shakeup to the project today.
In an Activision Blizzard earnings call earlier today, company president Mike Morhaime has confirmed the game is still in development, but it’s not the game it used to be.
We’re in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be. While we can’t talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG.
Titan was last acknowledged as going through “large design and technology changes” earlier in the year, with Morhaime today confirming that development team members have been siphoned off to make contributions to World of Warcraft and Blizzard All-Stars.
I also want to reiterate that there has not been an official announced or projected release date.
This is fairly standard procedure, he explains. The studio has “gone through this type of iterative process several times in the past”, so it’s nothing new or alarming. It’s just surprising, as fans had pegged Titan for a big reveal at this year’s BlizzCon in November.
