Saints Row IV: Still not acceptable in Australia

The original version of Saints Row IV is still effectively banned in Australia after a three-member panel of the Classification Review Board unanimously determined that the game should be Refused Classification due to in-game drug use.

It’s a slightly different rationale than was given for the original verdict, with no sexual content referred to at this stage. Instead, the finding was simple:

In the Review Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV could not be accommodated within the R 18+ classification as drug use related to incentives and rewards is not permitted.

This means, at this stage, Saints Row IV “cannot be sold, hired, demonstrated or advertised in Australia” – at least, not in its current form. A low-violence “Australian edition” is set to be submitted to the Classification Board, but it seems Deep Silver and parent company Koch Media wanted one more try at getting the original content through, uncut.

The Board will release a more detailed report on its findings regarding Saints Row IV, until then you can see the official statement on the Classification Review Board’s website. (pdf link)
