It’s been a long time coming, but free-to-play MMO shooter Firefall is finally in public beta, so anyone who wants to jump in for a bit of skill-based sci-fi combat is more than welcome. Matt DeWald from developer Red 5 was in town for PAX Australia, and he tells us all about what’s in store.

Firefall, an upcoming free-to-play MMO shooter, is set in a unique and beautiful science fiction universe 200 years in the future. Players are part of the last remnant of humanity on Earth, fighting to survive against all odds on a hostile planet ravaged by an aggressive energy storm and under attack by a mysterious humanoid race, known as the Chosen. One of the most anticipated PC games of 2013, Firefall consists of two triple-A components that will entice shooter fans: a polished PvP combat system tuned for elite-level eSports competition and a robust open world experience designed to immerse players in a deep storyline with dynamic events and social gameplay.

Then we crash back into the real world (mostly) with a look at Murdered: Soul Suspect, which was teased earlier this year and officially revealed at E3. The most difficult murder to solve is your own, as Creative Director Yosuke Shiokawa explains.

Murdered: Soul Suspect sees players take the role of Ronan O’Connor, a detective with a checkered past, whose life is brought to an untimely end by a brutal and relentless killer. Unable to move on and stuck in the limbo world of Dusk, he won’t find peace until he can bring his killer to justice from the afterlife.

And then, just as we’re getting settled in the afterlife, we zoom off to a whole ‘nother world: This time, the desolate wasteland of Mad Max. It’s still early days for the open-world project, and Avalanche Studios can’t talk much about it, but developer Andreas Gschwari spent a few moments with us at E3 to discuss as much as he could.

Scheduled for release in 2014, Mad Max will deliver dynamic, open-world gameplay where gamers fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using brutal on-ground and vehicular combat against vicious gangs of bandits. Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they scavenge the dangerous landscape for supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle.

All that, plus the latest in gaming news… no wonder we’re tired!
