StarCraft II celebrates 3rd birthday with trio of gifts

Can you believe StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has been out for three years now? How time flies when you’re working on your micro strategy… anyway. To celebrate, Blizzard is offering a new wallpaper, increasing XP gains and unlocking all three of the game’s races in the free-to-play Starter Edition of the game!

On July 27, 2010 we launched StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Blizzard developers traveled to major launch events in locations spanning the globe including London, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Moscow, Orange County, Singapore, Taipei, Mexico, Brazil, and Australia to celebrate with players. We were excited to meet gamers all over the world, and every year since, we’ve celebrated StarCraft II’s birthday. This year, we’ve got a few things for you.

First off, there’s a nifty bit of artwork. The 15th Anniversary “line up” wallpaper has been revamped by Luke “Mr. Jack” Mancini (he’s an Aussie!), to produce an edgier, grittier result.

You can grab this new 3rd birthday wallpaper in multiple resolutions from the Blizzard wallpaper page.

…then, there’s some increased XP gains. Log in to StarCraft II and get 25% bonus XP. Sounds like a great time to level up that race you don’t play very often, or just jump into some Multiplayer, Versus A.I. or Training Mode games!

And finally: All Three for Free, which Blizzard can explain:

Once again, we’ve unlocked all three races in the StarCraft II Starter Edition. That means that any player who hasn’t yet upgraded to the full edition of StarCraft II can check out what it’s like to play from the Protoss and Zerg perspective. Combine that with Spawning, and you’ve got a holiday on your hands!

The StarCraft II Starter Edition is available right now – absolutely free – and you can either play the first five single-player missions or jump straight into some multiplayer battles. If you like it, then you can buy it – otherwise, no obligation!
