Nvidia Shield re-plans launch for July 31

After a month-long delay, the Nvidia Shield gaming device has set a new launch date: July 31st. The handheld was originally supposed to launch a few weeks ago, but a last-minute check revealed a manufacturing error putting those plans on hold.

A newsletter explains:

Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted SHIELD to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry. We built SHIELD because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Unfamiliar with the Shield? It’s a new handheld device that can play Android games and stream PC titles from your gaming PC. It’s a nifty little piece of kit: A 5inch screen running 720p HD resolution flips up from a dual-stick gaming controller.

At this stage, no date has been announced for a release outside the U.S., but Nvidia promises us that Shield will make its way overseas in good time.
