Celebrate: Left 4 Dead 2 is officially out of beta, with an official update pushing the game out into the real world. Joining it on its quest: The official launch of Left 4 Dead 2 for Linux, as well as a new version of the Extended Mutation System, giving fans the opportunity to make their own gameplay modes.

Plus! The update also converts Left 4 Dead 2 to the new SteamPipe format: Easier updates, smaller downloads, improved experience and the ability to install L4D2 on any drive you like (take a look at the patch notes for more!).
To give you an idea of what’s possible in the EMS, the update also bundles up three new creations, as well as promising a bunch of new mods just on the horizon:
With names like Vicious Infected, Boomer Peril, Stranded, Vampirism, Plague of the Dead, Zombie Run, and Tiny Terror, there is something for everyone.
…no need to wait for them though, Valve has also tucked in Holdout – a new multi-map Mutation featuring resources and buildable items. It is, in their words, “pretty damn fun”.
Grab the update for Left 4 Dead 2 right now, just by refreshing your Steam client.
