Gears of War dev heading up new Mass Effect

BioWare isn’t talking much about its upcoming return to the Mass Effect franchise, but one team member has just announced his involvement. Chris Wynn, best known as lead producer on Gears of War 3 and senior producer on Gears of War: Judgment has officially jumped ship and landed in a whole new universe.

Neither BioWare nor Epic have officially made any statement, leaving it up to Wynn himself to announce the news via Twitter.

Thrilled to announce that I will be joining @Bioware as the Sr. Development Director on the next Mass Effect!

At this stage, we know that the upcoming Mass Effect game will be powered by the Frostbite engine. It’s not a direct sequel, instead exploring a new story within the same universe. That said, if you’ve played through the previous games, there’s a chance your choices may still hold sway.

This is the latest in a string of high-profile departures for Epic, with studio veterans Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson leaving late last year, three key Judgment developers pursuing an indie career, and company president Mike Capps stepping down to spend more time with his family.
