EA has confirmed that its Online Pass system is a thing of the past, as the publisher starts rolling out changes to remove the requirement. Forget the rumours, this is the real deal, folks.
For new EA titles, Online Pass will no longer be needed or included. Additionally, we are in the process of eliminating Online Pass requirements from existing EA games.

The transition won’t be seamless – prompts to enter Online Pass codes may still appear, and you will have to download and install the Pass – but it will now be available free of charge on either PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
Don’t get too excited just yet, though – while this is definitely happening, it’s still going to take a while, and EA warns anxious fans:
Please note that our advisors will not be able to provide you an Online Pass code before that game’s pass requirements are disabled.
We appreciate your patience.
…and in case you were wondering why the sudden change of heart? Apparently, EA made the radical decision to listen to fan feedback! The new move is designed to allow more people to play and enjoy EA games “for a long time to come”.
