Need for Speed adaptation starts filming

Filming has started on the upcoming adaptation of Need for Speed, with cameras rolling at a car wash in the U.S. city of Macon, Georgia. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul plays street racer Tobey Marshall in a role opposite Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton.

Paul, with a massive bounty on his head, is seeking revenge on the wealthy, business-minded gentleman who has framed him and sent him to jail.

Despite first hearing about the project last April, we don’t know much more about the story yet. It’s not based on any one particular game, instead drawing inspiration across the entire Need for Speed franchise, as well as classic “car culture” films of the 70s.

There are some big names attached too, including Kid Cudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, Harrison Gilbertson, Imogen Poots and Dominic Cooper.

Filming was scheduled to start last month, but is running late, in a move that has pushed the film’s release back to March 14, 2014 rather than the originally promised February.

While the production is described by local media 13WMAZ as a “great moment” for the town, more than a few locals are a little miffed at the inevitable road closures around the Fountain Car Wash.
