Well, we didn’t have to wait long to find out what Bethesda was dangling in front of us – we now have glorious confirmation that yesterday’s tease really was what we hoped for: Wolfenstein: The New Order, scheduled for release later this year.
As we’d suspected, Wolfenstein: The New Order is in development at MachineGames, a Swedish studio made up of bits and pieces from Starbreeze, and with a healthy history of making “compelling, critically-acclaimed story-driven games”.
Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames explains:
We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere. As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.
Described as a “reimagining” of the Wolfenstein franchise (last seen in 2009), The New Order sees the return of B.J. Blazkowicz in a “gripping and dramatic experience”.
That’s about all we know so far – all the details for Wolfenstein: The New Order are wrapped up in a series of exclusive stories on GameSpot.com – but we do know that it’ll hit Xbox 360, PS3, PC and “next generation consoles” before the end of the year.
We’re expecting to see a lot of this one at E3 2013 – stay tuned!
